Artist Statement:

I love representational painting, and I also love expressive mark making. Lately I’ve been working to meld these two things together. With a few of these pieces, I started with just washes of colors that I wanted to play with, not knowing what the eventual subject matter would be. I find that starting out either on a canvas that has interesting washes of color, or a wood panel that has a base tone and interesting grain, gives me a little more freedom to play and experiment. I’m fascinated by wildlife and mountains, and right now I am working on trying to do something unfamiliar with these familiar subjects. It’s a way that I can try to share some of the experiences I’ve had out in the wilderness of the American West with others.
