CARLY BROCK | JAN HOY August 3-27, 2023 To view the Virtual Tour, CLICK HERE Artist Reception: Saturday, August 5, 2023 3-5 pm We are excited to present our newest exhibit featuring Carly Brock and Jan Hoy. Drawing inspiration from "Color: A Natural History of the Palette" by Victoria Finlay, Carly Brock offers a deeply personal and emotional exploration of color. Brock's desire to honor the foundations of painting by observing the history of color shines through in each piece of this exhibit. Using a limited color palette on each canvas, Brock creates softly colorful and simplified landscapes that invite emotional responses from viewers. Through the titles of each piece, Brock sparks the imagination of viewers with open-ended suggestions of what each color might make them feel based on stories from the pigment's history.
This exhibit represents Brock's personal process as a painter, as she marries the emotional and physical experiences behind her work to create works that communicate universally. Jan Hoy's work is designed to draw viewers in and engage them in a way that leaves a lingering impression. Her forms, while abstract, are rooted in nature, with a simplicity that abstracts more complex shapes. For Hoy, each form is at its essence and has a sense of completion. Some forms are small and intimate, while others have a limitless sense of size. The materials, processes, and evolutions that go into Hoy's work are endlessly fascinating. All of Hoy's work starts in water-based clay, and she employs a variety of materials and fabrication techniques to create each final piece. This innovative approach results in a set of works that invite viewers to look deeper and engage with a sense of wonder at the limitless possibilities of both the artist's process and their own emotional response. We invite you to come explore this exhibit and experience the emotional power of each piece from both of these inspired artists.
