Pamela Wachtler

Pamela Wachtler is a Bainbridge Island–based landscape artist known for her impressionistic paintings and monotypes inspired by the iconic scenery of the Pacific Northwest. After earning her BFA from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia in 1972, she pursued a 25-year career in commercial design and illustration before dedicating herself full-time to fine art.

Rooted in plein air traditions, Wachtler’s work reflects her sensitivity to place, blending realism with an impressionistic touch. Influenced by “The Philadelphia Ten,” a historic group of women artists connected to her alma mater, she continues their legacy of expressive, regionally inspired art. Critics have described her style as “magical and mysterious within a strong compositional framework and rich palette.”

The silvery skies and shifting waters of the Northwest have become a natural subject for Wachtler, whose paintings and prints capture the light, color, and atmosphere of the region. In recent years, she has expanded her practice to include monotype printmaking, embracing its elements of discovery and surprise.
