'HALL OF ANTLERS'
Growing up in Montana, Corey Urlacher graduated Montana State University in 2005 with a BFA in sculpture. After moving to Washington, he started to refine his style of mixed media relief sculpture using vintage plastic, bones, religious statuary, Halloween decorations, etc. He is Inspired by a fascination of mythology, antiquity, and mortality to name a few. His sculptures are found in private collections around the US with several being displayed in many of the top tattoo shops in the country.
Artist Statement
Hall of Antlers
I traditionally start with a concept and then evaluate what I have in my studio, completing a piece using a plethora of different materials. The challenge was to create a series of sculptures for a specific space.....The Flex Gallery.
This show consists of 11 sculptures inspired by Antlers as objects of renewal, wisdom, and spiritual enlightenment. Stags become mystical beings responsible for iconic powerful totems in our world. Antlers are shed in the winter, but grow back bigger & stronger in the spring, typically adding an additional tine. This showcases the passage of seasons and hierarchy of the animal as well as the strength to survive against the harshness of the wild year after year. This appeals to all kings, queens, and shamans alike.
This exhibit is inspired by the mythology of both Cernunnos (Celtic) and Kresnik (Slovenian) Deities.
