Smith & Vallee Gallery is delighted to present Carrie Loeb. Her artwork beautifully captures the essence of the Pacific Northwest's water and land. Growing up on Whidbey Island, Loeb developed a profound connection to the natural surroundings and the soothing presence of the Puget Sound. It is this deep appreciation and intimate familiarity that shapes her artistic practice.
Loeb's ability to abstract the landscape and blend memories with new interpretations creates a truly unique experience for the viewer. Each artwork becomes a manifestation of layered memories, resulting in landscapes that are simultaneously familiar and novel. Through her intuitive process, Loeb allows the emotions associated with these memories to merge with the landscape, imparting a profound sense of comfort, calm, and stillness to each piece.
In her current artistic process, Loeb employs multiple washes of acrylic paint on raw unprimed canvas. This technique enables her to cultivate an ethereal quality, uncovering subtle nuances with every layer. The juxtaposition of undefined areas of movement with the stability of the horizon creates a delicate equilibrium between water and land, grounding you in a moment of tranquility.
Through the interplay of her technique and subject matter, Loeb's artworks invite you on a reflective journey. They encourage us to explore the delicate relationship between nature and serenity, and to appreciate the dynamic beauty that lies in the spaces where water and land converge. We are honored to showcase Carrie Loeb's stunning artworks, and we hope that this exhibition at Smith & Vallee Gallery will evoke a sense of peace and contemplation within all who experience it.
