Ruthie V.

Posted by Doug Paradis on

Ruthie V. creates paintings that are direct, expressive, and carefully edited for simplicity. Always challenging herself to say more with less, she paints from observation, limiting her palettes and teasing out the essential form of her subject matter, a process that involves the viewer in the completion of an image. Ruthie’s minimal approach includes her Japanese influence—she studied in both the U.S. and Japan—and her practice of completing each work in a limited number of sittings. While allowing herself the freedom to paint diverse subject matter in a wide variety of styles, she frequently returns to, and sensitively renders, the human form.
