Louis Byron is an emerging artist who recently graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Emphasizing in printmaking and mixed media, the development of his work is an exploration of reminiscence, sentimentality and introspection. The process is an interplay between gestural mark-making and critical decision-making, derived from an interest in visually interpreting imagery through abstraction as a cognitive response to his own nostalgia.
By combining the technicality of both traditional and non-traditional print-based methods with the kinetic immediacy of drawing and collage, the content of his work is aesthetically informed and reinforced across disciplines. Referencing old photographs or memorabilia, reused plates, monotype, digital manipulation, and repeatedly misprinted silkscreens apply the matrix as a form of mark-making, which functions in harmony with the hand-drawn.
